You should use the binary packages provided for your operating system unless you wish to test the latest versions. However, source packages are available as well.

Binary

You might find a variety of 3rd party RPMs and debs on the internet, but only the ones listed here are approved by the gtkmm team. Please encourage your Linux distribution to provide official gtkmm packages.

gtkmm 2.4:

Note that in this context, gtkmm 2.4 refers to the API / ABI compatibility version. So don't be surprised if your distribution actually provides a later version such as gtkmm 2.8.x when you install the gtkmm 2.4 package.

  • Debian GNU/Linux: apt-get install libgtkmm-2.4-dev. These project pages might give status.
  • Fedora/RedHat Linux: Use Fedora Extras via yum: yum install gtkmm24-docs to get the runtime, development, and documentation packages.
  • Mandrake Linux: Get libgtkmm2.4 from the contrib directory on their ftp servers.
  • Gentoo Linux: Get dev-cpp/gtkmm.
  • SuSE Linux: Use yast to install gtkmm2-devel.
  • Ubuntu Linux: apt-get install libgtkmm-2.4-dev.
  • Windows: Here is an installer.
  • MacOS X: There is a Fink package.
  • SUN, IBM AIX, SGI IRIX, HP-UX, Tru64 (gcc or the platform compilers): The Written Word offer binary gtkmm packages, with packagement management.
